The decision to organize on the basis of the Faculty of Information Technology and Robotics IIDO was made by the Council of the Belarusian State Polytechnic Academy on March 31, 2000 (minutes No. 3 of 03/31/2000).
In 2001, the first students were accepted for on-the-job training to study the specialty 1-40 01 01 "Information Technology Software". The first mass graduation of specialists took place in 2006.
In 2005, the Department of Distance Learning Technologies was established at IIDO, which, by the decision of the BNTU Council in October 2007, was divided into two departments: "Information Systems and Technologies" and "Information Technologies in Management" (Minutes of the Council No. 7 of 10/26/2007 , order 03-P dated 01/11/2008).
In the fall of 2007, the institute moved to the 20th academic building, where it is currently located.
In 2005, IIDO began training masters in the fields of information technology, economics and management. Since 2014, IIDO BNTU has been training undergraduates in 7 specialties of a practice-oriented master's program.
Postgraduate training at IIDO began in 2009. In 2010, on the basis of IIDO at BNTU, a council for the defense of dissertations for the degree of candidate of sciences was created. By 02.05.01 in the specialties 05.13.01 "System Analysis, Management and Information Processing" and 05.13.06 "Automation and Control of Technological Processes and Productions".
In 2013, the International Institute of Distance Education carried out the publication of the journal "System Analysis and Applied Informatics" to publish the results of research on the topic of dissertations in accordance with the requirements of the Higher Attestation Commission. IIDO organizes the annual international Internet conference "Information technologies in education, science and production". The Department of Information Technologies in Management conducts the section "Technologies of distance and e-education", the Department of Information Systems and Technologies holds the section "Information Systems and Technologies" within the framework of the annual International Scientific and Technical Conference "Science - Education, Production, Economics".
In 2015, a group of students from Georgia started studying at IIDO.
In 2017, the training of students from Sri Lanka is open.
In 2019, a joint educational program was launched with ESIGELEC (France). For the first time for MIDO, training is conducted in the full-time form of education in English.
In 2020, the International Institute for Distance Education (IIDO) turns 20 years old!
