Anton Vladimirovich Vavilov (In Honor of the 75th Anniversary of His Birth)

Антон Владимирович Вавилов: к 75-летию со дня рождения

Anton Vladimirovich Vavilov has dedicated nearly 58 years to the education and science system of Belarus, starting his career in 1966 as a physics and mathematics teacher at a rural school in the Vitebsk region. After completing his studies and postgraduate training, he worked as a junior and then senior research fellow until 1982. Since 1982, he has been with the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute (now Belarusian National Technical University), where he began as an associate professor in the Department of Construction and Road Machines (SDE) and, since 1988, has served as the head of this department for 38 years (renamed to the Department of Mechanization and Automation of Road Construction Complexes in 2018). He also served as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the Belarusian State Polytechnic Academy from 1996 to 2000, contributing significantly to the development of the university.

Professor Vavilov has taught engineering and master's courses with high methodological and scientific standards. Beyond successfully managing the educational process, he continuously reformed the department, transforming it in 1991 from a general educational department into a specialized one, launching the specialty of "Lifting and Transport, Construction, Road Machines and Equipment." Recognizing the growing need for engineers specializing in lift and hoisting equipment in buildings and structures (including escalators and moving walkways), he pioneered this specialization in Belarus.

In 1996, Anton Vladimirovich established and chaired the doctoral dissertation defense council for the specialty 05.05.04 "Road, Construction, and Lifting Machines." He has also served as a member of several doctoral defense councils and as an expert for the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus (HAC). In 2009, he was awarded the Honorary Certificate from the HAC of the Republic of Belarus.

In 2001, he founded and led the Belarusian Public Scientific Association of Technological Machine Creators (BONOSTM), coordinating activities among more than 30 machine-building enterprises producing and operating road, construction, and municipal machines.

His accumulated scientific and production expertise has allowed Professor Vavilov to lecture on the advanced training of road industry professionals in Belarus for nearly 30 years. In 2000, he was honored with the title "Honorary Road Worker of Belarus," and in 2018, he was awarded the Medal "For Contribution to Road Science."

Since 1996, Anton Vladimirovich has been actively involved in educational activities at both national and international levels. While serving as Vice-Rector of the Polytechnic Academy, he successfully chaired the Council of the Educational and Methodological Association of Belarusian Universities in the Transport Sector and the Council of the Educational and Methodological Association in the Field of Construction and Architecture. He was also a member of the Council of the Association of Construction Universities of the CIS. In 1999, he was elected a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Building Sciences.

Currently, Anton Vladimirovich continues to work actively, successfully balancing his scientific and educational endeavors. Several years ago, he established a scientific laboratory focused on the mechanization and automation of road construction complexes, where he serves as a scientific advisor and heads a research school, developing scientific foundations for creating resource-saving technological machines and specific machines for emerging production technologies.

He laid the groundwork for creating a system of competitive road machines and has been a professor in the Department of Forest Machines, Roads, and Technologies of the Forest Industry at the Belarusian State Technological University for several years.

His research results are published in 10 monographs, over 570 scientific papers, and include 59 inventions.

For his active and fruitful educational work, Anton Vladimirovich was awarded the "Excellence in Education" badge by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus in 2009, along with numerous commendations from the Ministry of Education, BSGA-BNTU, and a jubilee medal from the Ministry of Defense.

In 2001, he was honored with the Presidential Scholarship of the Republic of Belarus for his significant contributions to higher education and science.

In 2023, Anton Vladimirovich was appointed a member of the Subcommittee for State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus in the field of science and technology.
