Today, September 2, the solemn ceremony “BNTU First-Year Students – 2024” took place at BNTU. How the knowledge festival went and what first-year students remembered about the beginning of the academic year, we tell you in this report.

Every year, the Polytechnic welcomes within its walls those who have recently received the honorary title of "first-year student of BNTU". On this day, congratulations, parting words and, of course, advice from senior colleagues and the university management are heard in their honor.

Thus, marking the beginning of the event, the participants of the ceremonial assembly were congratulated by the rector of BNTU Sergey Kharytonchyk.

– First-year students, highly respected guests, highly respected teachers! I am sincerely glad to congratulate you all on the Day of Knowledge, and first-year students – also on admission to the largest world-class university – the Belarusian National Technical University. On this day, I would like to quote one of our President's quotes concerning education: "Education is the foundation of our society. It is a pass for the state and the entire nation for tomorrow." I guess it couldn't be said better. I ask you, our first-year students, to do everything to learn as much as possible from our teachers. This is the most valuable thing they can give you. Don't be shy, work hard, take everything from your studies to stand in line with those who the university and the country are proud of. Happy holiday to you!

The guests of honor also joined the warm words: Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, graduate of BNTU Viktor Karankevich, First Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Bakhanovich, Dean of the joint faculty of BNTU - TSTU Alimjon Riskulov, Rector of the parish of the Church of St. Prince Alexander Nevsky in Minsk, candidate of theology, Archpriest Nikolai Korzhich and others.

– Great hopes are placed on you, the younger generation, because the future of our country is yours, – the Deputy Prime Minister noted. – Further improvement of the quality and standard of living in our republic depends largely on you. It is you who will be one step ahead of your competitors in the future, so go ahead, achieve success in your studies, make discoveries, so that the years spent at the university remain the brightest, unforgettable memories for your entire life. But the main thing is to believe in yourself, believe that the most difficult tasks and issues can be solved. BNTU teachers will not only give you advanced knowledge, but also teach you to think creatively, solve problems in accordance with the challenges of the time. Famous engineers, scientists, talented leaders, scientists and statesmen have become graduates of BNTU, and they contribute to solving urgent tasks set for our country. I am proud to be a graduate of this university," Viktor Mikhailovich noted.

Listening to every wish and advice, many first-year students have already made mental notes and plans for the coming academic year. During the event, some even managed to share them.

“My plans for my studies include actively learning new things and subsequently becoming a highly qualified specialist,” noted a first-year student of the Faculty of Transport Communications Violetta.

- I think my plans correspond to the opinion of the majority: to start studying, pass the first session and spend these years usefully. Several generations of my family studied at Polytechnic, so I am sure that studying here is not only informative, but also interesting, - emphasized a first-year student of the Engineering and Pedagogy Faculty Vladislav.

The connection between generations is an important part of the Polytechnic University history, in which the names of more than 700 teachers, employees, postgraduates and students who gave their lives for their homeland are forever inscribed. To honor their memory and show respect to their ancestors, thanks to whom Belarus was liberated from the Nazi invaders 80 years ago, a minute of silence was held at the event venue.

First-year students also took part in a ceremony of laying flowers at the stele to the university staff, teachers and students who died during the Great Patriotic War.

In continuation of the theme of the succession of generations, those who recently have been in the place of freshmen, students and graduates of BNTU, took the stage. Alexandra Tarasenko, a student of the Faculty of Marketing, Management, Entrepreneurship, a gold medalist of the world championship in rapid chess and rapid, and Alexander Romanyuk, a graduate of the Automotive and Tractor Faculty in 2024, came out to greet the participants of the ceremony.

As noted by the university stage hosts Alena Metlushko and Alexander Pasko, "BNTU is a whole universe." The universe can be explored almost endlessly, so the guys were introduced to its  brightest stars: sports, cultural and youth organizations. During a bright and large-scale flash mob, first-year students learned about the Center for Ideological and Educational Work, the primary trade union organization of students, the primary organization of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union, the Department of Culture and Sports Sections, and groups.

Before continuing to get acquainted with the university, it was necessary to start a new academic year. The honor to launch a new countdown was given to Ksenia Zhuk, a first-year student of the Faculty of Energy, who scored 396 points according to the results of CE and CT, and Egor Marchuk, a student of the automotive tractor Faculty, a graduate of the Lyceum of BNTU, a winner of the 9th open Olympiad of students "Step to Innovation".

When the start was given, an invited musical guest, a pop artist, a songwriter and a BNTU graduate Martwin, took to the stage.

The final composition was performed by the soloists of the vocal and pop studio "The Soul in Love", who, together with the creative teams of the Department of Cultural Affairs, gave their performances throughout the event.

The new academic year has begun, the first day at the university is over, and a busy student life is ahead. Dear first-year students, you did the right thing by choosing BNTU, and today we wish you to find your way within the walls of  Polytechnic University and to bear the title of BNTU student with dignity. Go ahead, try new things, reach the top and strive for the impossible. Happy holiday!
