An engineering adventure for hundreds of applicants. BNTU held an Open Day

Инженерное приключение для сотен абитуриентов. В БНТУ прошел день открытых дверей

Today, March 21, the Belarusian National Technical University once again opened its doors to prospective students. BNTU's Open Day brought together hundreds of guests: schoolchildren, their parents, and representatives of faculties and companies that hire staff. From early morning, the BNTU campus was filled with an atmosphere of celebration, creativity, and new discoveries.

Even before the official start, applicants began exploring the stands of faculties and companies that hire staff, located in front of the main building. Everyone could obtain useful information about specialties and admission requirements, and try their hand at interactive activities, master classes, and quizzes. A free career guidance testing area was also open, and students could also receive advice from Admissions Committee representatives, before capturing the moment in the photo zone.

At the grand opening, BNTU Rector Sergei Kharitonchik addressed the guests with a welcoming speech:

– Every year, we open our doors to showcase our capabilities, showcase our best knowledge, and invite everyone who wants to become part of the engineering profession. We have a large army of graduates and students. Our experience shows that they are successful in all fields. We see in our country how well and dynamically we are developing, what wonderful roads, cars, cities, and trains we have—these are all of us, graduates of the Belarusian National Technical University." Every year, thousands of people come to our open days, learn about their future profession, choose it, and commit their lives to it. These are not only ordinary applicants, those who are crossing the threshold of our university for the first time, but also those who are already here with their parents, or who have previously studied at our university. Many understand that our university provides excellent knowledge and a start in life. Today, you have the opportunity to learn more about where your start lies. Representatives of industrial enterprises are also present at our celebration. I invite these distinguished guests to engage in a very close and active dialogue. These are the real workplaces where you will work. Here, real examples of the latest technology and products are being created. You can learn about the modern working conditions available at our Belarusian enterprises. Our instructors will do everything possible to ensure that the knowledge you gain during your studies helps you be successful, goal-oriented, and fulfilled in life. Have a wonderful, successful holiday and productive work!

Following the rector's speech, creative teams from the BNTU Department of Culture took the stage. The performers treated the guests to vibrant musical compositions and folk dances, setting a festive mood for the entire day.

For those who wanted to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Polytechnic student, tours of the faculties were organized. Students visited classrooms, laboratories, and research centers, where they were able to see modern equipment and ask questions of the faculty and students.

Throughout the day, interactive zones with themed quizzes, intellectual games, and workshops were open. The Polytechnic University's developments, including a roadster designed by students and faculty of the Automobile and Tractor Faculty at the "Advanced Vehicle Designs" design bureau, were particularly interesting.

Slow down and refreshments were available near the field kitchen and in the cafeteria. A performance by cadets from the Military-Technical Faculty was a real spectacle. The young military personnel demonstrated their mastery of hand-to-hand combat, delighting the audience.

At the event, applicants eagerly shared their impressions of the university, talked about their chosen majors, and their plans for admission.

Daria is confident that BNTU's Open Day can evoke a storm of positive emotions in both children and adults:

– This is my first time at an open day; this is my first experience. I hadn't gone before; I thought I'd come back sometime, but now I have the opportunity to visit." Around the holidays, I started thinking about applying to BNTU and was already looking at the majors. I collected a bunch of brochures about the majors I could get into based on the subjects I was taking. And I was actually interested in many of the majors. I was very impressed. There was a lot of varied and useful information. It's interesting here not only for adults but also for children. I brought my little sister, and I think she was very happy. Plus, there are lots of prizes to win: magnets, candy, keychains. There's a lot of useful information and people who can advise on the majors and help if something is unclear.

Timofey has already compared Polytechnic University with other universities and was impressed by the number of interactive activities:

– I've been to open days before, for example, at the Transport University. It was certainly interesting there, but there were more activities here. They also talk about the majors in a fascinating way. I was interested in the Civil Engineering department; I haven't decided on a department yet, but they're all interesting. I'm very positive because I wasn't alone and learned interesting information. What I liked most? The university itself, how everything is organized.

Ksenia, although nervous, already knows exactly where she'll apply:

– I was interested in majors like biomedical engineering—that's the instrument-making department. And in the Civil Engineering department, I was interested in the real estate appraisal and management major. Biomedical engineering appealed to me because I'd be able to help people who are sick, and civil engineering, because after ninth grade, I'd planned to study architecture. It didn't work out, but my interest in building construction hasn't faded." I'm a little nervous right now because there's still competition for admission, but I hope to get in because the people here are responsive and the majors are interesting.

In addition to getting to know the university, participants were able to test their knowledge of BNTU in a traditional quiz. Questions covered the university's history, its cultural and athletic life, and the specifics of its various faculties. Participation generated keen interest among applicants, and the prizes were awarded, adding a touch of excitement to the celebration of engineering.

As part of the open day, a meeting between applicants and their parents with representatives of the university and companies hiring staff was also held in the assembly hall of the main building. BNTU First Vice-Rector and Deputy Chairman of the Admissions Committee Andrey Safonov and Natalia Afanasyeva, Executive Secretary of the Admissions Committee and Director of the BNTU Institute for Integrated Forms of Learning and Education Monitoring, addressed the audience. They presented key information on BNTU's 2026 admissions campaign.

During the meeting, key figures from the admissions campaign at the country's leading technical university were announced. In 2026, 3,828 first-year students are expected to be admitted, 3,173 of whom will be enrolled on state-funded scholarships. 2,748 full-time and 425 part-time places are available. Admissions will be made across 56 specializations across 16 university faculties. Furthermore, a new specialization, "Road Construction and Material Handling Machines and Equipment," will be launched in the Faculty of Transport Communications in the new academic year.

Special attention was paid to the most in-demand areas of study, including:

  • automation of technological processes and production;
  • high-temperature metal processing technologies;
  • mechanical engineering technology, metal-cutting machine tools and tools;
  • engineering and technical design and production of materials and products;
  • Vacuum, compressor, and low-temperature equipment and technologies;
  • Automobiles, tractors, mobile and technological systems;
  • Hydropneumatic systems of mobile and technological machines and equipment;
  • Operation of ground transport and technological machines and systems;
  • Transport process technologies;
  • Engineering and teaching activities;
  • Electric power and electrical engineering;
  • Construction of buildings and structures.

The open dialogue format allowed participants to understand organizational issues in advance and receive answers to key questions about admission firsthand.

The BNTU Open Day was more than just an introduction to the university; it was a true celebration of engineering, creativity, and networking. Applicants not only gained vivid impressions and useful information but also gained confidence in their chosen path. The 2026 admissions campaign is upon us, and we are waiting for you!
