Today, on May 8, the Belarusian National Technical University celebrated the grand opening of the educational and laboratory building No. 21. This event was significant not only for the university's students and faculty, but also for the entire country.
For your information: On February 5, 2025, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed Decree No. 49, which approved the State Investment Program for 2025. This program provided for the financing of 82 projects. In 2025, the program included the construction of the educational and laboratory building of the Energy Faculty at BNTU. On January 16, 2026, the Rector of BNTU approved the commissioning of the educational and laboratory building of the Energy Faculty. The facility is a 12-storey building with annexes in the form of a three-storey hotel, a four-storey editorial and publishing department, and a three-storey library. The educational and laboratory building is designed to accommodate 886 students. To facilitate the educational process, the building includes departmental laboratories, teaching rooms, a 100-seat auditorium, a 100-seat lecture hall, a 60-seat conference hall, administrative offices, a computer center, classrooms, laboratories, and lecture halls.
The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Karankevich, Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus Andrey Ivanets, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Belarus Denis Moroz, Head of the Administration of the Sovetsky District Alexander Shchekovich, Rector of Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University named after R.E. Alekseev, Honorary Professor of BNTU Sergey Dmitriev, Acting Rector of Izhevsk State Technical University named after M.T.Mikhail Pisarev Kalashnikov, Viktor Skrobot, General Director of the Belgosproekt Institute, Oleg Dashkevich, General Director of the state enterprise Trust Minskpromstroy, and Sergey Kharitonchik, Rector of the BNTU.
During the opening ceremony, Viktor Karankevich addressed the audience:
– Dear friends, teachers and students of the Belarusian National Technical University, and, of course, the Faculty of Energy. On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Belarus and myself, I would like to sincerely congratulate you on the opening of the new educational and laboratory building of the Faculty of Energy at BNTU. This is an important, very significant, and long-awaited event in the life of the university. The Faculty of Energy at BNTU is a training ground for the energy industry and the fuel and energy complex. Energy supply organizations are waiting for you, future young specialists, graduates of various specialties. There are many of them: from the production of electric and thermal energy to its transmission through networks, working with consumers, structural divisions, and energy sales. And there, you can always prove yourself. Most importantly, an important facility where you can also work in the future is the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant. Thanks to the support of the Head of State, our energy complex is developing dynamically, introducing new technologies and modern equipment, and automating and digitizing technological processes. Therefore, it is very important that you can not only gain theoretical knowledge, but also conduct practical experiments. There are also many laboratories in this building that will help you with this. You will be assisted by future personnel customers – energy supply organizations, and between the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Energy, between the Belarusian National Technical University and organizations of the Ministry of Energy system, close interaction has been built, aimed at practical orientation, so that you could already in the future, when you are graduates and come to the enterprise as young specialists, immediately join the technological process that takes place at various enterprises of the Ministry of Energy system. I would like to thank everyone who took part in the construction of this beautiful building. It is important that there is close cooperation in the future to strengthen the material and technical base and to create laboratories equipped with modern equipment. I am confident that high-level specialists will be produced here, who will make a significant contribution to the development of the energy sector and our country, and will continue to work for the benefit of our beloved Belarus.
In turn, Andrey Ivanets emphasized the significance of the event for the students and faculty of the EE Department at BNTU.
– Dear guests of honor, dear faculty members, and dear students. Today is a significant event for the Belarusian National Technical University. BNTU is rightfully considered to be the flagship of engineering education in our country, which is famous far beyond the borders of Belarus. I am confident that the Faculty of Energy has found its long-awaited home. I wish the faculty and students to fill it with knowledge, new ideas, and developments, so that we can hear even more loudly about the high-quality specialists graduating from the Faculty of Energy and the dynamic development of the energy sector in our country. Thanks to the support of the President, the Belarusian National Technical University has been growing rapidly in recent years. Most recently, we opened a new dormitory with a thousand beds, just recently we opened a competence center for digital engineering, and today we have a new building of the Faculty of Energy. This work will continue. I wish you all success, and prosperity to the BNTU Faculty of Energy for the benefit of the Republic of Belarus!
Denis Moroz also delivered a congratulatory speech during the landmark event.
– Dear colleagues, dear friends. This significant event, the opening of the building, takes place on the days when the Belarusian energy system celebrates 95 years of its existence. During this time, the Belarusian energy system has turned into a modern high-tech complex, which includes dozens of high-pressure stations, hundreds of thousands of kilometers and thousands of networks, and the pearl of the Belarusian energy sector – the nuclear power plant. However, it is important to understand that all these achievements would not be possible without the human factor, the energy specialist who will help these complex mechanisms and systems. This specialist acquires their knowledge here, at the educational institution. It is no secret that the Energy Department of the Belarusian National Technical University is the main source of personnel for the development of the Belarusian energy sector. The fact that we are opening this wonderful building today is a remarkable event. I would like to thank the builders, the Ministry of Education, and the designers who have created this building. As energy professionals, we understand that our next task is to equip this building with the most modern and high-tech laboratories, so that students can learn about the latest and most advanced technologies and go into the industry with the necessary knowledge. I am confident that our combined efforts will make this building a source of education for future generations of highly skilled energy professionals.
Sergey Kharitonchik thanked all those involved in the construction and commissioning of the new building.
– Dear ministers, distinguished guests, a lot of work has been done. I would like to say a huge thank you, first of all, to the President of our country and the government, our ministers who supported us, the Ministry of Architecture, our designers, and builders. Well done, thank you, I bow low to you. You have done a great job, you have taken a step into the future. Our students will come and justify the trust they receive today. They will make excellent leaders and true patriots of our country. Thank you very much!
The ceremony culminated in the transfer of the symbolic key. From the hands of Viktor Karankevich, Sergey Kharitonchik received this symbol of future scientific discoveries and professional achievements of students and employees of BNTU. The official launch of the new building was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, which marked a new chapter in the history of Belarus' leading technical university.
During the event, the guests also visited the laboratories and classrooms of the new building. Those present saw not only the advanced laboratories and modern classrooms where classes are already taking place, but also personally witnessed the uniqueness of the building's equipment.
The new educational and laboratory building No. 21 of BNTU will become a platform for training thousands of future engineers, power engineers, and scientists.
