Yesterday, April 1, 2025, members of the BNTU Student Council where they had the opportunity to see with their own eyes the underground department of the Republican Hospital for Speleotherapy, as well as the mine of ore management 1 (1 ore). As part of the tour, representatives of the Polytechnic also visited the Museum of Labor Glory of “Belaruskali” OJSC.
For reference: the purpose of visiting Belaruskali OJSC is to develop in students an understanding of the work of a Belarusian miner and a mining engineer, to become familiar with the largest organization in the real sector of the economy, the work of the leading mining enterprise of the Republic of Belarus and its history.
In Soligorsk, the students were met by Natalia Navitskaya, a leading specialist of the information and ideological work department of Belaruskali. She said that the history of the miners' capital begins with the development of the Starobin potash salt deposit. The first drilling rig appeared here in 1949, and almost 10 years later a rally was held on the occasion of the founding of the city as a center for Belarusian miners. Initially, it was called the workers' settlement of Novostarobinsk and only later acquired its modern name of Soligorsk. The monument symbolizing the founding of the city is located in Molodost park - in its center there is a symbolic first stone.
At the beginning of the excursion, Natalia Konstantinovna invited the university representatives to become acquainted with the only operating institution in the world that practices a non-drug method of treatment using underground speleotherapy in potash mines – the underground department of the Republican Speleotherapy Hospital.
Known as the "salt mine", the speleological complex is located at a depth of 420 m. Special microclimate conditions of underground caves have been created here: high air ionization, constant temperature, low relative air humidity and the absence of allergens make it possible to treat a wide range of diseases of the respiratory system, skin, nervous system and circulatory system.
– I have never been to such places before – you go down and there is a real underground world with a unique atmosphere. The most interesting thing is that these are not just some caves, but a specially equipped place for treatment. The air there is simply amazing – so clean and fresh, you could pour it into bottles! We were introduced to the principle of the speleotherapy clinic, told about salt rocks and their healing properties. Now I understand why many people come here specifically for treatment, – shared his impressions the chairman of the student council of the Faculty of Marketing, Management, Entrepreneurship (FMME) Vladislav Spodo.
Next, without going up to the surface of the earth, the guys went to get acquainted with the technologies used in underground mining operations during cleaning and tunneling operations, and the mechanization of potash ore mining. BNTU students heard first-hand about the specifics of working as a miner, the dangers and challenges of the profession.
- After going down into the mine, I realized that the safety procedures we had been instructed on earlier were not a work formality, but important rules, the observance of which is vital for everyone who is underground. The work of a miner is difficult and dangerous, but necessary for all of us, and it is impossible to overestimate its importance for the economic and agricultural well-being of our country, - noted the representative of the FMMP student council, Yana Podgayska.
BNTU students were able to learn about the history of the development of the miner's profession in our country upon their return to the earth's surface: the students visited the enterprise's labor glory museum. Natalia Konstantinovna told how the enterprise was formed, what the first miner's equipment looked like, and how the enthusiasm of the enterprise's employees allowed it to increase production volumes many times over its relatively short history and take up 45% of the world market for potash salts. Ilya Vasilets, chairman of the student council of the energy faculty, shared his emotions after the excursion:
– It was very interesting to learn about the people who stood at the origins of the enterprise. Photos, personal belongings, awards – all this creates a very vivid picture. I would like to say special thanks to the guide – she told us very fascinating stories, answered all the questions. Now I understand why Belaruskali is considered to be one of the largest enterprises in the country. I definitely recommend all students to visit this museum, it has history, technology, and human destinies.
At the end of their short trip, in memory of their visit to the museum, BNTU students left a short message in the enterprise's guest book:
«From the future engineers of the country with great gratitude and best wishes!
Student Council of the Belarusian National Technical University».
