Specialization
1-42 01 01-01 03 Metal science, technology and equipment for heat treatment of metals
Modern metals and alloys are the strategic foundation of industrialized countries. Civilization is rapidly mastering advanced alloys and methods of strengthening them. Along with traditional steels, special alloys based on aluminum, titanium, magnesium, superalloys based on cobalt, nickel, etc. are actively being developed and used. An understanding of the whole variety of modern alloys is taught in this specialty. Active interaction with institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and leading enterprises allows students to master modern computerized equipment for volumetric and surface hardening. Information technologies are studied by students and used to analyze the structure and performance properties of alloys. Only a student of metallurgy knows well why some alloys become stronger after quenching, while others become softer, why an “aged” alloy is stronger than a “young” one, which ones are better - European or Asian, etc.
There is a catastrophic shortage of specialists who understand modern alloys and understand the nature of hardening and softening of alloys. There are few of them abroad either. Therefore, this specialty is in acute shortage. Up to 50% of organizations' applications for metal engineers remain unsatisfied - there are not enough graduates. A significant portion of graduates remain to work in Minsk organizations and leading enterprises. Graduates are willingly hired by research organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. A number of graduates successfully work abroad. Among our graduates are directors of enterprises, university professors, and successful businessmen. The shortage of metal engineers and the modern knowledge gained ensure rapid career growth for qualified graduates.

Students become familiar with the principles of functioning of information systems and technologies in the field of foundry and metallurgical production, the work of specialized and universal application software packages - LVMFlow, ProCAST, PolygonSoft, ANSYS, etc. - for computer-aided design and computer modeling of technological processes and equipment.
The specialty is included in the list of the most popular specialties in the economy, admission to which certain categories of applicants are carried out without entrance examinations (Resolution of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus No. 25 of March 25, 2017).

The basis for the opening of the specialty was the widespread introduction of vacuum and compressor technology and technology in various sectors of the national economy - from woodworking, vacuum packaging and refrigeration to technological equipment for microelectronics, nanotechnology and oil and gas transportation. The use of materials specific for vacuum and compressor technology, the growing level of complexity of equipment and automation of vacuum technological processes require highly qualified service personnel.
The industry of our country is developing in the direction of developing modern high technologies that make it possible to create high-tech, competitive products. In this regard, the need for highly qualified specialists in the field of vacuum technologies and equipment will increase. Advanced technological processes in instrument making, microelectronics, optical production and a number of other industries can only be implemented thanks to the advantages of modern vacuum and compressor equipment and technologies.
The activities of graduates cover the design, adjustment, operation and repair of vacuum and compressor equipment, as well as the development and implementation of technological processes in accordance with the functional purpose of this equipment.
Graduates of the specialty are sent to work in design organizations and design bureaus, industrial enterprises (PO Integral, NPO Planar, JSC Atlant, BelOMO), research institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, enterprises - manufacturers of trade, chemical, food equipment.
Within the framework of this specialty, recruitment is carried out by correspondence form of education with a reduced period of study for graduates of secondary specialized educational institutions.
After graduating from the university, specialists are awarded the qualification "engineer".
In full-time education, engineers are trained to work in the design, technological and production departments of shipbuilding and ship repair plants, as well as in the field of technical operation of water transport and water transport structures, in survey bureaus, inspections of the Register and small vessels.
There is an acute shortage of engineers in this specialty in the republic, and in connection with the development of water tourism and the adoption of the Program for the Development of Inland River and Sea Transport for 2016–2020, the need for specialists in the field of shipbuilding and operation of inland water transport will increase.
The training of engineers in this specialty is carried out in close cooperation with the leading university for shipbuilding in the CIS countries - St. Petersburg State Maritime Technical University according to curricula and programs agreed with it. Along with specialized enterprises, specialty engineers are in great demand at enterprises in the mechanical engineering, energy, construction, and automotive industries.
Full-time education provides training for economic engineers specializing in areas related to the functioning of utility and water management enterprises, including design, construction and operation.
Students are involved in research work and participate in international programs and events.
Graduates will receive the qualification of engineer-economist and work in housing and communal services, at water supply and sewerage, heat and gas supply, water management in engineering and economic positions in planning and financial services, in logistics departments, in monitoring and security services environment, in research organizations, in commercial enterprises.
Graduates have the opportunity to continue their education at the department with a master's degree in the specialty "Economics and Organization of Production", including studying abroad within the framework of international student exchange programs.
Civil engineers are trained for production, technological, design and research activities for the creation and operation of heat and gas supply systems for cities, settlements, industrial and municipal enterprises, agricultural facilities, heating and ventilation systems for residential, public and industrial buildings.
